What's your favorite Bay Area Equestrian Shop?

What's your favorite Bay Area Equestrian Shop?

Like you, my horses and four legged friends are always top of mind and I truly enjoy providing for them.  I thought I’d share my current list of resources to fill your cart with horse and pet goodies.

If you’re here in the San Francisco East Bay you’re probably familiar with many of these places. Some of these places may offer services you need and weren’t aware of.  For example, if that bridle you bought at Dover needs repair, Rowell’s Saddlery may be able to help. If you’re new or considering moving to the area, these are places to add to your list of resources.

  1. Western Saddlery - Pleasanton, CA - A large warehouse complete with all your horse care, feed, english and western tack, apparel and custom tack trunks. I often refer to Western as the “Costco” of horse supplies.  Western is family owned and has EXCELLENT customer service as well! https://www.yelp.com/biz/western-saddlery-pleasanton

  2. Dover Saddlery - Moraga, CA - Caters primarily to english disciplines, but has a great horse care supply section for all horse lovers.  Tack, apparel (training and competition), boots, helmets.  Dover is a beautiful store and is worth the drive up to Moraga just to experience it! I have found the staff here knowledgeable and helpful.  https://stores.doversaddlery.com/california/moraga-ca

  3. Arney’s Crow Canyon Saddlery - Castro Valley, CA (although very close to San Ramon) -  Arney’s has been around since 1951 for a reason. I got my very first saddle here when I was about 9 years old! It was used, and probably my favorite christmas present I’ve ever received! Arney’s is a great stop to pick up any of the basics for horse and rider and they specialize in Western saddles so if you’re in the market for one, pay them a visit! https://www.arneyssaddlery.com/

  4. Baughman’s Western Outfitters - Livermore, CA - This shop is geared more towards western wear, but does have some basic horse care items. If you need some new cowboy boots and hat for the Livermore rodeo, Baughman’s will take good care of you.  Located in the heart of downtown on First St., you can make a day of shopping, lunch and wine tasting! https://baughmans.com/

  5. Concord Feed - Concord, CA - Another shop rich in Bay Area history, “Concord Ice & Fuel” originally opened in the 1920’s and then transformed to its modern, Concord Feed in the 1970’s. They currently have 4 locations, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Dublin, and Livermore (formerly Livermore Feed).  This store is more generalized for all your farm friends, ranch supplies and feed.  Dogs, cats, horses, chickens, bunnies and guinea pigs.  Everything you need in one place! https://concordfeed.com/locations/livermore/

  6. Rowell’s Saddlery - Castro Valley, CA - Since 1941 Rowell’s Saddlery and Western Wear has been a staple of downtown Castro Valley.  Originally focused on saddle making, today you’ll find western wear and accessories, basic horse care items and leather/saddle/bridle repair and custom leather work. Don’t forget the Rowell Ranch Rodeo in May!  https://www.yelp.com/biz/rowells-saddlery-and-western-wear-castro-valley

Last but not least, if you want to hit the motherlode of all Bay Area equestrian resources, visit and become a member of Bay Area Equestrian Network (BAEN).  https://www.bayequest.com/Business/showBusi_54.htm

BAEN is also on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/bayequest/
